About me

IMG_0912

My name is Kate Sawford. I am a 35-year-old woman born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. I have a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Public Health. Currently I spend much of my time just east of Canberra working as a veterinarian for the NSW state government.

But my professional life does not have much to do with my reasons for starting this blog. While I am dedicated to my work, I am also fully engaged in other endeavours, namely climbing and yoga, though not necessarily in that order, with a bit of surfing and cycling thrown in there for good measure.

The lens though which I view the world is influenced largely by my journey though childhood cancer that resulted in the amputation of my left leg. I have come to understand that the long-term consequences of that experience will continually shape my beliefs and perceptions. They can be read about here.
